edithmorningstar: Edith Piaf, eyes closed, black & white (bask)
I am still too focused on time-sensitive RL stuff to be doing much writing. Or rather, when I do I then feel horribly guilty because there is a shit ton of RL stuff I need to be writing instead. But anyway. In much much more detail than the meme asks for, but heck.

Currently actually part-written, and/or part plotted, are:

The Ivan/Byerly on Cetaganda thing )

The totally different original draft of the Terrence/Ethan )

The Arthur/Merlin thing that kind of scares me )

The Wincest one with the elves )

The Wincest one with the lesbian rabbi hunter )

Plus on my to-write wishlist:

Laurence/Tharkay, or Temeraire/Izkierka )

Slashy Vorkosiverse with Gregor, pairing needed )

Hawaii 5-0 slash with Chin )

Glee with Puck/Lauren, or Karofsky, or Shue/Bryan Ryan, or *somebody* and Mercedes )

And I may need to write some of the things I requested for Yuletide that didn't get chosen, or some Castle OT4, or who the hell knows what's going to suddenly eat my writing brain when I least expect it. Wincest, I am so looking at you there. If I put as much time into writing just one of these fics as I just put into telling you about them....

I now know that the author of the fabulous Yuletide gift I received is [archiveofourown.org profile] tornyourdress! I'm definitely going to work through the rest of her fic collection now.

And the fic I wrote is
Love is Strange, or: How George Michael Learned to Stop Worrying and Love His Cousin, Arrested Development, George Michael/Maeby Bluth, for [livejournal.com profile] togapika. George Michael hasn't seen his cousin Maeby since he and his father fled to Mexico, but he can't stop thinking about kissing her. Maeby loves her Hollywood life but she can't find a guy to connect with. Can these two not-exactly-relatives still hope for a different kind of relationship?

I really enjoyed Yuletide - my first anonymous exchange ever, and definitely not my last.

OMG, how perfect is my Yuletide gift?! I feel so incredibly lucky, because I couldn't have told someone to write something this perfect if I'd tried.

Better than Normal
Easy A (2010, movie)
"So how did Brandon meet that 'big black guy' he ran off with?"

It'll be a bit before I'm able to read any more Yuletide fic cos it's family time now, but I've already had an excellent gift and I haven't even looked at the tree yet.

Yuletide fic - finally - written, edited, and posted to Ao3. Whew, because this is my first year and I was terrified of simply not being able to write to command on deadline, and my assignment turned out to be a little trickier for me than I'd been thinking when I offered for it. But it's done, and I'm fairly sure it doesn't suck, so hurrah. Now maybe I'll even try writing a treat or a madness fic or something, once I have time and now that the pressure's off. I like the idea of writing some more rare-fandom fic one-offs.

Non-fannish life has been a bit full lately, which is why I haven't shown up much recently. I imagine there's a lot of catching up for me to do, so if I'm suddenly leaving you 10 comments in a row, you'll know why.

I had a week where Supernatural fic ate my brain, which is entirely the fault of [personal profile] rivkat's journal banner, otherwise known as the thing that finally made me realize Jensen Ackles actually is kinda hot. Still having trouble on the Jared Padalecki, but I can see how he could appeal to other people. I think I'm mostly done with that random fic gorge, and I still don't have any plans to actually watch the show. But yeah, Jensen Ackles is hot, at least when candle-lit and sprawling.

My copy of Cryoburn is slowly making its way through my local friends, so there's been a lot of offline discussion especially of the (spoiler). And on a local friend's rec, plus the appearance of a short story in the anthology that's got "Winterfair Gifts," I picked up Catherine Asaro's Primary Inversion to read while I'm traveling this week. I should really make a post where I tally up all the sf/f books people have recced me, or I've recced or given to other people, this past year.

Really, though, life has mainly been the obligations I can't put off from livelihood and volunteer commitment related pursuits, and I've missed hanging out here, and I owe tons of comments including on fic I read but was too tired to feedback over the past couple weeks, so I'm looking forward to feeling officially on vacation in a few days.

Dear awesome person who is writing a Yuletide story for me (for which I am absurdly grateful no matter what you do) here are some thoughts on my requested fandoms, all very spoilery for their canons & so cut separately.

Hunger Games )

FlashForward )

Easy A )

Dollhouse )

Some general stuff:

I'm participating in the Chromatic Yuletide challenge, so I have a definite preference for culturally sensitive portrayals of fully fleshed-out characters of color when they appear, and for them to appear when possible. I'm a big feminist, anti-oppression, activist type person in my RL.

I do have a few big squicks )

I'm sorry that you don't have a lot to work with on this journal itself, since it's relatively new and I haven't linked it to my RL-friendly journal. If you need some inspiration or idea-bouncing or a check about something beyond what you can find here, ask [personal profile] bookshop, who's known me forever in fandom. I also know that no matter what you pick, and what unique spin you put on it that I haven't thought of, I'm going to deeply appreciate your writing for me! I know I threw out a possibly overwhelming ton of ideas & preferences in this post, but truly, I am grateful for whatever you write.

I finally read Cryoburn, and though it's been a while I'm still digesting it.

Canon fear

I've had Cryoburn for two days, sitting there, wanting to be read, and my main excuse is I've been super busy with RL crap, but also, I'm realizing I simply don't quite want to read the *last of the current canon* in the Vorkosi-verse. Of course I want to read it, it's just, when I read Diplomatic Immunity - not that long ago; I didn't really dive into the series til this year, after having dabbled a while back - I already knew there was another book on the way. Now, it's almost like getting ready to read Harry Potter 7, except without the certainty about whether or not there'll be another book. And there's a little bit about wanting everything to be perfect, not to have too much RL distraction to pull me away from the book until I've devoured it.

ETA: There's another book in the works, [personal profile] philomytha tells me, so YAY! and now I can get over that weird little block to Cryoburn.

Meanwhile, I've been plotting out this longish Ivan/Byerly I really want to write and am desperately afraid that Lois has written Ivan a love story in Cryoburn and I'll like that person so much I'll have a hard time getting back into the mode of the fic. But OTOH, of course I want Ivan to find love in canon! (How fabulous, though I'm sure I'd have seen squee erupting, if that person *were Byerly*! I really want a canon queer relationship that's both healthy & onscreen, Lois! Pleeeeease?)

I *know* I'm being ridiculous. But I felt the need to unburden anyway.

Well, I have committed fic. This is actually the second short fic I wrote recently, in this new and wonderful return-to-overt-fannishness, but it's the one that's most ready for light of day and I want to shove it outside while I still feel indulgently fond of it. The first fic had no dialogue, which made me freak out about whether I could still write dialogue, so this one has rather a lot of it. This will be, I think, my first fic posted since 2003. I definitely feel rusty at writing, but hopefully it's only up from here :D.

Well, here I am. This will be part experiment, part celebration.

Expect to see this journal comment on fic (yay!), join fannish communities, and, when I've tweaked it enough, post a Vorkosigan-verse short fic to get started.
